The Smurfs- Post 10

I was a child when I saw the Tv episodes of the smurf, it brings about good memories when I think about it. Cartoons now a days are anime like Pokemon, Dragon-ball Z otherwise there like Sponge Bob. The smurfs was a very simple cartoon that every child could appreceiate it. Except some of my friends that were not allowed to watch it because it had a sorcerer as its villian. That is another topic. I recently saw that they made a movie that was part animation and part real life. Much like the chipmonks, the studios are hoping for a throwback that will make them a lot of money. Who are they kidding? while I remember the smurfs no other young child would know anything about them. The parents of these kids may know about the smurfs but do they really want to entroduce there kids to this version of the Smurfs? I hope not. I for one will not let my kids watch this movie. I would rather them watch the TV episodes that I watched. In fact as I am writing this blog they are watching a downloaded TV episode. Keep the classics, you do not need to bring back everything cause it is not nearly as good.

Bert and Ernie are not gay - Post 9

I just read  and watched a news article of one mans mission to see Bert and Ernie on Sesami Street get married. If you have been living under a rock for about a couple decades you will may not know about Sesami Street and the show it puts on. It is a kids learning show for kids, it has iconic puppets such as Big bird, The Count, Snuffleufagus, Glover, Cookie Monster, and Elmo just to name a few. In this motley crew comes Bert and Ernie, there anticts are fun loving. These two friend live together and sleep in the same bed. For kids this has not been a problems but in this age we see adults secretly saying that they are gay couple and it's just the show trying to make a gay couple acceptable.
Let me tell you something. Burt and Ernie are not gay and even if they were it would be ok. The show has stated numerous time that these are puppets and are not humans thus they do not live up or should not be conceived to be a gay human couple. In my opionion anybody that has to publicaly move to a step further and ask the show to just marry the two is out of there mind. They have nothing better to do. Leave Burt and Ernie alone they are a kids show, one that I loved as a child and one that my kids also enjoy. To the parents that will not let your child watch this because they do not like the concept of a gay couple, they are missing the point. This show is all about education and learning and new things. If the parents rather let the kids watch Pokemon or some other anime type of show they are wasting a great importunity of having there child learn. To the man in the video trying to get the puppet duo to get married: get a life.

Why Tablet Craze? Post 8

" First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes". (Airplane 2) So first there was laptops next there were notebooks soon after that there was netbooks and know we have tablets such as the Ipad. Technology keeps evolving and big companies need to come out with something that sells to keep them in buisness. That is just how it works simple supply and demand. The big thing now is the Ipad but why is this device so applealing? I will give you the positives and then the negatives.

The positives: It is cool. The new edgy cool device is an attention grabber. Fun. This device is touch screen and is larger than that tiny monitor on your phone to watch movies and play games and browse the internet. Apps. We all love apps and these devices had thousand of applications that will make our lives easier. Size. It is able to fit in your purse if you are a woman and could easily fit into a backback with a ton of rm to spare, it is also light compared to a heavy laptop. Battery life. These tablets to have good battery compared to laptops. Ease of use. They make tables very user friendly so anybody can operate them.

The Negative: Price. Ipads start at 400$ ouch. Size. Yes it is larger than a phone screen but you really need to carry another device on your person. Apple. Apple uses proprietary software. Will not replace a Laptop. You can read a book on this device but you are not going to write a lengthy paper on it. Dirty. Well I don't know about you but I have a thing with putting my dirty fingers all over a beautiful screen. It smears and you are constantly worried that you will get a scratch on it. Trendy. For some this is a plus for me every pompous hipster has one or is drooling over it, they worship everything that is apple and will constantly buy the newest device apple comes out with. That is lame in my opinion.
If you really want a tablet I suggest getting a different brand, it will cost less, will be android, thus open source and do everything an Ipad can do without having that hipster elitist ora.

Movie Review- Cowboys vs. Aliens- Post 7

Movie Review : Cowboys vs. Alien

I love sci-fi movies from Independence Day to Predator these movies make me smile. I especially love it when they mix genres. Cowboys vs. Aliens movie had all the essentials to make it a great sci-fi. Western are good, one of my favorites would be Tombstone. Tombstone was great because it was an interesting story, the actors were top notch and the action and drama mixed very well. On the other hand I love Predators and any sci-fi because it is so surreal that you want to know more and see how our hero will save the day. So mix two good genres and you get this movie.

So what do you need to make a good movie. 1. Good actors. Most people will know Daniel Greg as "James Bond" so you have name recognition right away. He did a good job, not a man of many words but in most sci-fi movies you don't need a lot of words to make it great. Example The Terminator. Arnold would barely speak English when he did the original Terminator and that was a great movie.2. Good supporting role. There is no better actor as supporting role than Harrison Ford, Mr. Han Solo himself. He kept you guessing as to what he was thinking and what kind of guy he was. His role outshone Daniel Craig s character in my opinion but then nobody can out shine Han. 3. Good action. This movie started with a bang and kept me interested the whole length of the movie. I hardly wanted to go to the rest room which I might add can lead to clinical problems.

I just love this concept because few directors/writers ever tackle this. The technology between there to society's are so vast but the cowboys in the end overcome the gold loving aliens with the help of native american Indians. I know, it sounds very unbelievable and stupid but that what sci-fi is all about. I for one will continue to view movies such as this and love them. No matter what the stuck up "critics" say about this movie I encourage everybody to see this movie and if you don't like it than it's your loss.

Star Wars Pop Culture- post 6

I love star wars. I love everything about it, the good the bad and the ugly. Star wars has ingrained itself in pop culture. I see references in commercials, TV shows, movies. If someone said said " I am your father" most everybody would know where that reference comes from. I love the idea of star war universe. The creator George Lucas is a genius. The movies have been seen all over the world and kids and adult love getting caught up in a "Galaxy Far Far Away". But why does this movie capture our minds and hearts? Was it the great acting, the memorable scenes, the futuristic weapons, the robots, the theme of good vs. evil or was it just that it was all of it tied into one incredible movie. What kid would have love to have his very own lightsaber? This kid, or a blaster to shoot stormtroopers, or have the ability that the Force gave the Jedi? As a dad I can now share my love for starwars to my son and daughter. It is fun when we have lightsaber battles and for holloween we dressed up like starwars characters.

Of course Lucas has capitalized on his films popularity and had done very well marketing everything starwars.
You can buy almost anything with a starwars theme or logo on it.
If you have not see the original movies you need to see them and if you think that the new ones are better that the old ones then you should know that these movies were made in the late 70 and probably before they were born and they should not wreck the best movies of all time. I can appreciate the new ones for what they are, the beginning of the adventure. Yes there are characters that I did not like such as the Ewoks and the Jar Jar from the new movies, but they were a necessary evil to make the movie what it is. The end of the part six was not the end of the story. The story continues in book form and keeps going on and on. So if you don't want the story to end I encourage you to pick up a book and get ready to be immersed in wonder and amazement.

Worst womens shoes ever- Post 5

Ok first I am going to say that I do not wear women shoes....Now that we cleared up the air we can begin. It started when I was talking to a friend at work and we were commenting on today's fashion and we started talking about women shoes. Now I do know a bit about this, my wife loves shoes and I like buying them to go with her outfits. What husband doesn't want there wife to look good right? Well here are a list that I have come up with that I think are ugly shoes that for some reason have been or are popular at this time.

1. The Ug boots. They look like they would be warm if you were and Eskimo but we live in Florida.

2. Crocs. Really... I can see little kids wearing them because they are easily cleaned and you can slip them on but they look so ugly that any adult with them on needs to have there head examined.

3. Birkenstocks. Much like crocs  however they were a hippie and old lady favorite in there hayday.
4. Boat shoes. Are we all sailing on a yacht?
5. Gladiator sandals. We are not in Rome.

That concludes my rant. I am sure that fashion will give us a lot a winners in the future, I just can't wait to see what is next.

Are you a Watch man? Post 4

Ever since there had been the first wristwatch there has been a fascination with wristwatches. It may be just a accessory for some but for others it is the way he and other people see him or his personality. Why would someone care what they wear around there wrist one might ask? I guess it relates to fashion and we way we see ourselves. If we do not care what we look like we will most likely not care what we wear and how we wear clothing, shoe, hair ect. If we do not care then what kind of feeling of self worth do you have? Either very confident one or not at all.
 Common watch for the young
My fascination with watches came at an early age.  My dad had a drawer of old watches he kept when we live in Chile and I use to sneak in his office and were the watches. They were to big and heavy for my wrist so i pretended I was a business man going to close a bid deal. My first watch was a Mickey Mouse Disney watch. I loved it and I wore it out only to Sunday dinners when we went out. I was only in the 3rd grade when I received this. I soon got a Casio digital watch which I could wear out all the time. Those Casio watches could take a beating. After that time I kind of lost my watches and never replaced them. Only when I was in college did I need something to tell me when I had to get out of the surf to go back to school, did I purchase a Rip Curl Tide master watch. At that time I considered watches to be something that restricted you, they told you when you had to leave or arrive, I know that sounds crazy. When I graduated college my wife bought me another watch for work, it was a Freestyle steel bracelet watch. I began to get into watches again soon after that and began to look what kind of watches were out there. Well I found out that watches is a big buisness and that watchmaking skill that goes into some these timepieces are exceptional. I can put it into 3 catagories. 1. Fashion watches such as Fossil, Armani, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole and Gucci just to name a few. These watches range in price but are usually made in Japan and are quartz movements which means that they require a battery. Nice watches due to the price and availability. 2. Semi-Luxury watches. Prices start at a few hundred dollars to 1000 they include names like Tissot, Victorinox, Seiko, Movado , Luminox and Hamilton. Many of these watches are mechanical and quartz and have Swiss movements which is typically associated with good craftsmanship.

3 The luxury watches range from plus 1000. Most common name here is Rolex and Tag Hauer with other such as Patek Philips, Zenith, Omega, Baum & Mercer, Oris. These watches  have mostly Swiss movements and are a status symbol. Do they show the time like a fossil watch? Yes they do but people with unlimited funds can afford to have a $5000 watch on there wrist. I do own an Omega watch it was made in the 70's and is collectible watch. I do see the fine attention to detail in there watches and  really enjoy it. So are you a watch guy? I am. I will probably never own a Rolex and I am ok I would not wear on if someone gave it to me but that is my preference and my choice, you must make your own choice.
